BEKASI, KOMPAS.com - A housemaid, R (53), stole a number of gold items belonging to her employer, YA, in the Alamanda Indah housing complex, Bekasi City.

Bekasi City Police Chief, Commissioner Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro, said that the perpetrator initially met a man who claimed to be “Kyai S” and promised to multiply money.

“The perpetrator met someone on social media who claimed to be Kyai S and said he could multiply money. The perpetrator was interested in trying it,” said Kusumo, Friday (15/5/2026).

The stolen jewellery included white gold necklaces, pendants, children’s bracelets, and dragon scale chain bracelets. The perpetrator even replaced one of the victim’s pieces of jewellery with a suspected fake bracelet to avoid detection.

“The perpetrator also replaced one of the victim’s pieces of jewellery with a suspected fake bracelet,” said Kusumo.

Some of the stolen jewellery was then sold and pawned in several places in Bekasi City, such as Toko Emas Kemenangan in Pasar Pejuang Jaya and Pegadaian Boulevard Hijau Harapan Indah.

According to Kusumo, the proceeds from the sale and pawning of the jewellery amounted to tens of millions of rupiah.

“One children’s gold necklace was sold for Rp 2.5 million. A white gold necklace and pendant were pawned for Rp 14 million, three children’s bracelets for Rp 7 million, a white dragon scale chain bracelet for Rp 24 million, and a yellow dragon scale chain bracelet for Rp 33 million,” he explained.

The theft was uncovered when the victim checked a red wallet containing jewellery in her bedroom on Sunday (15/3/2026). The victim became suspicious after finding only one bracelet, which she suspected was fake, in the wallet.

Because she knew she had never owned the bracelet, the victim asked the perpetrator about the whereabouts of her jewellery, and the theft was eventually revealed.

In this case, the police secured several pieces of evidence, including a red wallet, imitation bracelet, pawn ticket, and proof of pawning transactions.

For her actions, the perpetrator was charged with Article 477 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code regarding aggravated theft, with a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
