House to query polio handling

JAKARTA: At least 25 members of the House of Representatives plan to file a motion to question the government's handling of polio and marasmus cases in the country.

Lawmaker Nursjahbani Katjasungkana, the initiator of the motion, said on Wednesday the government's response to these health crises was too slow despite long-term development plans.

The recent outbreaks of polio and marasmus are proof of the government's negligence, he said, while noting that the discovered cases were likely just the tip of the iceberg.

A total of six questions for the government have been drafted and will be filed on Thursday. The motion will be discussed during a plenary session, during which all 10 House factions will deliver their views before deciding whether to pass the motion. -- JP
