KENDARI – House of Representatives Commission XII has highlighted the tax arrears of PT Virtue Dragon Nickel Industry (PT VDNI) and PT Obsidian Stainless Steel (PT OSS), which operate in Morosi District, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi.

The matter came to light during a Commission XII working visit meeting held at Hotel Claro, Kendari, on Friday (11 July 2025).

Commission XII member Rocky Candra stated that based on a presentation by Southeast Sulawesi Governor Andi Sumangerukka, PT VDNI and PT OSS had failed to pay their tax obligations for the past four to five years.

"Four or five years ago they stopped paying their obligations related to surface water tax, motor vehicle tax, and fuel tax," Rocky Candra told the media in Kendari on Friday (11 July 2025).

Rocky called on PT VDNI and PT OSS to immediately fulfil their surface water tax obligations amounting to Rp5.6 billion, as the arrears have affected the region's Locally Generated Revenue (PAD) and development in Southeast Sulawesi.

"I am calling on Virtue Dragon to immediately pay its obligations to the Southeast Sulawesi regional government," he said.

During the Commission XII review, it was also discovered that the regional government had filed a lawsuit against PT VDNI and PT OSS, which is still ongoing in court.

"We shall see how this legal process concludes. Certainly, once a legal ruling is handed down, PT VDNI and PT OSS must comply with it," he said.

During the working visit, Rocky also expressed his disappointment with the responses provided by the management of PT VDNI and PT OSS, which he deemed highly unsatisfactory.

"The information we gathered and the statements made by PT VDNI and PT OSS management left us with considerable dissatisfaction. We will bring this matter to the Mining and Minerals Working Committee within Commission XII," Rocky Candra added.
