House of Representatives Commission X Chair Hetifah Sjaifudian has responded to widespread concerns over noise from padel court activities disturbing residents from morning until late at night. She stressed that the operation of padel courts anywhere must take into account the comfort and orderliness of the surrounding environment.

“These sporting activities must still take into account aspects of environmental comfort and orderliness,” Hetifah said when contacted on Friday (20/2/2026).

Hetifah urged local governments to ensure that operational permits for padel courts comply with regulations. She called for mandatory noise dampening requirements so that activities at padel courts do not disturb residents.

“I am urging local governments to ensure that every padel court construction complies with spatial planning regulations and environmental impact analyses, including noise threshold standards,” she said.

“If necessary, operators must install noise dampeners and restrict operating hours so as not to disturb nearby residents,” she added.

Hetifah views the growing popularity of padel as a positive development, but stressed that several considerations must be observed.

“The bottom line is that sport must develop, but not at the expense of the public’s interests and comfort,” she said.

A resident living in the Haji Nawi area of South Jakarta had complained about noise generated by a padel court business near their home. The complaint gained widespread attention on the social media platform Threads on Thursday (19/2).

In the post, the resident said noise from the padel court was disrupting their daily activities and those of surrounding residents. The resident also claimed to have reported the complaint through the JAKI application and official Jakarta Provincial Government channels, including tagging Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung’s social media account, but had not yet received a response.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung subsequently spoke out about the complaint. He said he would summon operators and relevant stakeholders to discuss the matter.

Pramono said the summons would be issued in the near future to ensure that all permits and padel business operations comply with prevailing regulations.

“Next week I will invite all stakeholders specifically related to padel permits. I have asked for a presentation to be prepared,” Pramono told reporters at Jakarta City Hall.
