House Commission VIII Reviews Hotel-Based Hajj Embarkation Scheme in Yogyakarta
House Commission VIII is monitoring the organisation of Hajj embarkation in several regions on Tuesday-Wednesday, 21-22 April 2026, including Embarkation Solo, Embarkation Yogyakarta, and in East Java. Deputy Chairman of House Commission VIII RI, Singgih Januratmoko, expressed interest in the implementation of Hajj embarkation without dormitories in Yogyakarta. “This is a new breakthrough, without using dormitories. Pilgrims go straight to the hotel, rest for a few hours, then to the airport,” said Singgih when met by reporters after seeing off the departure of prospective Hajj pilgrims from the third flight group (kloter) at the Donohudan Hajj Dormitory, Boyolali Regency, Central Java, on Tuesday, 22 April 2026. Singgih views the hotel-based Hajj embarkation scheme as an attractive option. According to him, the approach could potentially cut large investments for building new dormitories. “Rather than building dormitories with high costs, cooperation with hotels can be an alternative. Especially if in Jogja the hotels are empty, they can be utilised. It is hoped that the economy will move, creating a Hajj ecosystem that can run well,” he stated. Nevertheless, the House has not yet reached a final conclusion. A comprehensive evaluation is still needed, particularly regarding pilgrim comfort, time efficiency, and inter-agency coordination. “Later we will see the mechanism, which one is cheaper, which one is better. Because if we talk about creating a new embarkation, new dormitory, it’s not yet. It also requires expensive costs,” he said. Meanwhile, from the monitoring conducted on the Hajj service process at the Donohudan Hajj Dormitory on that Wednesday, Singgih assessed that every process ran well. He also ensured that several other improvements have been made in this year’s Hajj organisation, from hotel arrangements that are no longer scattered, improvements in catering services in Saudi Arabia, to stricter health checks for pilgrims. “From the monitoring earlier, alhamdulillah, it went well. The third kloter is scheduled to fly around 18:00 WIB with a fast track scheme, so immigration checks are done here,” said Singgih. Singgih also advised pilgrims to always follow the instructions of the PPIH officers or their group coordinators and maintain their health while performing worship in the Holy Land.
