House Commission III Urges Probe into Alleged Intimidation of Sanitation Workers in West Jakarta
Deputy Chairman of DPR Commission III, Dede Indra Permana Soediro, has highlighted the alleged intimidation of sanitation workers in the Taman Palem Lestari complex, Cengkareng, West Jakarta. Dede has urged law enforcement authorities to promptly and thoroughly investigate the case. “We ask the police to immediately investigate the actions of a group of security personnel; they did not show good manners towards the elderly or women,” said Dede on Saturday (4/4/2026). The PDIP politician reminded that such cases should not be ignored. According to him, if not dealt with firmly, similar behaviour could set a bad example. “This form of intimidation, especially against the elderly, must be thoroughly investigated. If left unchecked, we will lose our sense of propriety and manners,” he said. The video of the alleged intimidation went viral on social media. In the circulating video, sanitation worker named Dewi Astuti was said to be collecting rubbish in the complex on assignment from the local RT. However, Dewi was prohibited and roughly treated by several individuals claiming to be security personnel. A witness at the scene, RT Chairman named Jethro, was also obstructed when trying to help Dewi. One of the individuals even claimed to have received orders from the lurah to prohibit the cleaning activities. In the video, Dewi was also seen being pushed until she fell. Dewi subsequently reported the case to the West Jakarta Metropolitan Police. The report was registered under number LP/B/906/IV/2026/SPKT/POLRES METRO JAKARTA BARAT/POLDA METRO JAYA dated 1 April 2026. Several names were reported in the case of alleged unpleasant acts, including Asdi, Suwanda, Setio, Udin, Saamin, and Sarifudin.
