House of Representatives Commission III member Nazaruddin Dek Gam has commended the Indonesian National Police (Polri) for dismissing Brimob officer Bripda MS of the Maluku Regional Police in connection with an assault case that resulted in the death of a 14-year-old Islamic secondary school student identified by the initials AT in Tual, Maluku. Dek Gam assessed the move as being in line with public expectations.

“We commend Polri’s performance in swiftly handling the case of the secondary school student who died in Tual. This is certainly in line with the expectations of Commission III and the public — that those who are in the wrong must face consequences,” Dek Gam told reporters on Tuesday (24/2/2026).

He expressed his appreciation to National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo for acting quickly in imposing sanctions. Dek Gam assessed that firm action against police officers who violate the law is a crucial element in maintaining public trust in the police institution.

“Once again, we express our appreciation to the National Police Chief and his ranks for taking swift action, including the dismissal of the Brimob officer in question. This is important, given that public trust in the police has been improving, and this is also part of preserving that trust,” said the PAN (National Mandate Party) politician.

Previously, Brimob officer Bripda MS of the Maluku Regional Police was found to have violated the Indonesian National Police Code of Ethics in the assault case that led to the death of the student. Bripda MS was dishonourably discharged after being found guilty of the violation.

“The Police Code of Ethics Commission has handed down the following rulings: first, the offender’s conduct is declared a disgraceful act. Second, placement in a special facility for four days, from 21 February 2026 to 24 February 2026,” said Maluku Regional Police Public Relations Chief Commissioner Rusitah Umasugi in the early hours of Tuesday (24/2).

“And third, dishonourable discharge, or PTDH, from the National Police,” she added.

The ruling was based on an ethics hearing held by the Police Ethics Commission at the Maluku Regional Police Professional and Security Division hearing room. The hearing was chaired by Commissioner Indra Gunawan, accompanied by Deputy Chairman of the Police Ethics Commission Senior Superintendent Jamaludin Malawa and Police Code of Ethics Commission member Senior Superintendent Jaku Samusi. The prosecutors in the hearing were Inspector Joni James Holey and Senior Brigadier Edward Jaya.
