House Commission I Sets Criteria for TNI Officer to Serve as ISF Deputy Commander in Gaza
A member of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) is set to become Deputy Commander of the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) in Gaza, established by United States President Donald Trump. What criteria has House Commission I outlined for the TNI officer who will fill the ISF Deputy Commander role?
"Regarding qualifications, Commission I of the House of Representatives emphasises that the assigned soldier must have extensive experience in multinational operations, military diplomacy capabilities, and the highest integrity. This placement is not merely about rank, but also about leadership capacity and the ability to build synergy with contingents from various other nations," said Deputy Chairman of House Commission I Dave Laksono to reporters on Sunday (22/2/2026).
Commission I views the assignment of a TNI soldier within the ISF structure in Gaza as both an honour and a significant responsibility. Furthermore, the ISF Deputy Commander position is considered strategically important.
"Indonesia's presence in a strategic position such as ISF Deputy Commander demonstrates international confidence in the professionalism and track record of TNI in global peacekeeping missions," Dave said.
Commission I, according to Dave, will ensure that the TNI soldier assigned possesses qualifications that meet international standards, enabling them to carry out the mandate effectively whilst upholding Indonesia's good name in the eyes of the world.
"As for the ISF Deputy Commander position, generally such a role is filled by a senior officer, depending on the organisational structure established by the Board of Peace," he added.
Foreign Minister Sugiono had previously responded to questions about which TNI member would serve as Indonesia's ISF Deputy Commander. According to him, no individual has yet been selected to fill the position.
"It will be discussed first. The TNI will be the ones to choose," Sugiono said on Saturday (21/2).
According to Sugiono, there will be three deputy commanders of the ISF. Indonesia was selected for the Deputy Commander for Operations role because it is contributing 8,000 personnel, one of the largest contingents in the ISF.
"The force commander position is held by the United States. There are three deputy commanders, one of which is the deputy commander for operations. Because Indonesia's forces are also among the largest there, we were given the Deputy Commander for Operations role," he said.
