Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission I, Dave Laksono, has welcomed the temporary two-week ceasefire agreement between the United States (US) and Iran. Dave stated that the ceasefire could serve as an initial momentum to ease tensions in the Middle East.

“Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives views the temporary ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran as a positive step that deserves appreciation. This agreement opens space for diplomacy and provides hope for achieving regional stability, particularly in the Middle East,” Dave told reporters on Thursday (9/4/2026).

Dave assessed that the opening of the Strait of Hormuz represents an important development. This is because it can ease tensions while maintaining global energy distribution stability.

“The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz during the ceasefire period is a highly strategic development, considering that this route is the main artery of world energy trade,” he said.

“This step not only eases tensions but also opens opportunities for sustainable stability in the region. This positive momentum is hoped to be maintained so that the Strait of Hormuz becomes a symbol of international cooperation that brings benefits to many countries, including Indonesia,” he continued.

Dave emphasised the importance of transparency and fairness regarding potential policies on ship transit fees in the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, this is to ensure it does not hinder international trade.

In addition, he will ensure that the government implements diplomacy and effective cross-ministerial coordination. Dave stressed that Indonesia must be able to maintain the smooth distribution of energy.

“Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives reaffirms its commitment to supporting every diplomatic effort oriented towards peace, stability, and the nation’s strategic interests. We believe that the positive momentum from this ceasefire can serve as a foundation for creating more constructive long-term solutions,” he stated.

Previously, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that Iran would agree to the ceasefire “if attacks against Iran are halted”.

He added, “during the two-week period, safe shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz will be enabled”.

According to Araghchi, this would be done “through coordination with the Iranian Armed Forces and taking into account existing technical limitations”.

Araghchi’s statement came shortly after US President Donald Trump said that the United States and Iran would pursue a two-week ceasefire on the condition that Iran opens maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

“I agree to suspend bombing and attacks against Iran for two weeks,” Trump said on Truth Social.
