House Commission I Backs Indonesia as ISF Deputy Commander: A Sign of Global Trust in the TNI
Vice Chairman of House Commission I Dave Laksono has responded to Indonesia’s appointment as deputy commander of the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) and the planned deployment of TNI troops to Gaza. Dave said the appointment reflects the world’s trust in the TNI’s performance.
“This reflects global confidence in the TNI’s professionalism and affirms Indonesia’s position as a nation consistently committed to international peacekeeping missions,” Dave said when contacted on Friday (20/2/2026).
Commission I, he said, supports the government’s steps in carrying out the assignment. He emphasised the need for optimal preparation before sending troops to Gaza.
“House Commission I firmly supports the steps of the government and the TNI in carrying out this assignment,” Dave said.
“We emphasise that all preparations must be carried out comprehensively, from logistical aspects and rules of engagement through to the protection of troops, so that this mission can be executed safely, in a measured manner, and in accordance with the international mandate,” he added.
Commission I will continue to oversee the government’s and TNI’s future actions to ensure they proceed within proper channels. The oversight is being conducted with the expectation that the troop deployment will not be merely symbolic.
“As part of our oversight function, House Commission I will ensure that every step taken by the government and the TNI in this mission adheres to the corridors of international law whilst prioritising the safety of the forces,” he said.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto said TNI troops would be sent to Gaza, Palestine, within the next one to two months. Some 8,000 TNI personnel are to be deployed.
“Perhaps not long, another one to two months,” President Prabowo said in response to journalists’ questions after the inaugural Gaza Board of Peace Summit in Washington DC, United States, on Thursday (19/2) local time, as reported by the Antara news agency on Friday (20/2).
The 8,000 TNI troops will serve alongside the International Stabilisation Force (ISF), whose members comprise a coalition of Gaza Board of Peace member states. Prabowo also mentioned the possibility of an advance team being sent to Gaza first.
The advance team would be deployed in relatively small numbers, as their mission includes mapping the territory and analysing risks for when the TNI forces subsequently serve alongside the ISF.
On the same occasion, Prabowo also conveyed that Indonesia had been entrusted with the role of ISF Deputy Commander.
“They asked us to be deputy commander,” President Prabowo said.
Indonesia, Prabowo said, will appoint its finest officer to serve as ISF Deputy Commander.
