Hotels offer discounts on holidays

JAKARTA (JP): Many starred hotels in the city are offering special room rates during the last days of the Moslem fasting month of Ramadhan.

The Moslem festival Idul Fitri will fall on Friday and Saturday and the city administration has predicted that over two million people will leave Jakarta to celebrate the holiday in their hometowns.

As a result, many hotels in the city will face low occupancy over this weekend and are offering special prices to Indonesian citizens and working visa (KIM-S) holders, to persuade people to spend Idul Fitri in the hotels.

"This happens every year and during this year's Idul Fitri I estimate the occupancy rate at this hotel will drop to about 50 percent," Harti Hadikusumo, public relation manager of Le Meridien Hotel on Jl. Jend. Sudirman, Central Jakarta, said, adding that from early this month until last Monday the hotel's occupancy rate had remained normal at about 87 percent.

Harti added that Le Meridien hotel was offering a special Lebaran package from Feb. 24 to March 12, in which its charges will be US$100 per night for single/double deluxe rooms.

Harti hopes Jakartans who have to spend Idul Fitri without their servants will spend their weekend at the hotel.

Public relations manager of Grand Hyatt Hotel, Retna Purbo, said the occupancy rate at the hotel during this weekend will drop to 50 percent from its usual rate of 70 percent.

She said the hotel is offering a special rate for its standard rooms of $159 per night from Feb. 28 until March 12.

The Jakarta Mandarin Oriental hotel in Central Jakarta is offering a special price from Feb. 17 to March 11, during which period guests will pay $110 per night for a deluxe room and $140 for a Mandarin Oriental Club room.

"Every year, the occupancy rate at this hotel drops during Ramadhan and this year we predict the rate will drop to about 20 percent from its usual rate of 80 percent," said Riana Djudzman of the hotel's public relations office.

Meanwhile, the Borobudur Inter-continental hotel on Jl. Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, is optimistic that its occupancy rates will not drop because it is offering a special price for its rooms of Rp 250,000 (US$115) per night from Feb. 17 to March 11. Usually the price of a room at the hotel is $190 per night.

"Many people have booked rooms in this hotel for the weekend," the hotel's public relations officer, Hardiyanti Wulandari, said.

The packages provided by the hotels include several complimentary services such as breakfast and fresh fruit. (yns)
