JAKARTA (JP): Ninety companies are taking part in the horticultural exhibition now underway in Ragunan, South Jakarta.
The exhibition, opened by Governor Surjadi Soedirdja on Friday, will last until Dec. 10.
Held for the third time, the exhibition features various types of fruits and vegetables grown in Jakarta.
City administration organized the exhibition.
The head of the city agriculture office, Maharanto, said at the opening ceremony that the exhibition was aimed at promoting typical Jakartan fruits and vegetables.
"We want to improve farmers' professionalism through such an exhibition," he said.
The governor also said another way to promote typical fruits of the city is by planting the trees in areas which are named after the fruits.
"For example rambutan (Nephelium) trees are planted in Kampung Rambutan areas, duku (Lanseh) in Kampung Duku and manggis (mangosteen) in Kampung Manggis," he said. (yns)
