Horrific: Man in Siak, Riau, Kills Woman After Being Refused a Loan
A man with the initials AS (44) murdered a woman identified as EWS (44) in Minas District, Siak Regency, Riau. The perpetrator killed the victim out of resentment after she refused to lend him money.
Siak Police Chief Senior Commissioner Sepuh Ade Irsyam Siregar revealed that the murder was discovered by the victim’s sibling on Wednesday (4 February) afternoon. The sibling had visited the victim’s home on Jalan Perawang Km 2, Minas Timur Village, Minas District, and found her lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen.
Police investigated the case and on Friday (13 February) made a breakthrough, arresting the suspect.
“The perpetrator was apprehended whilst hiding at a relative’s house in Tengkereng Labuai Sub-district, Bukit Raya District, Pekanbaru City,” said Senior Commissioner Sepuh in a statement on Thursday (19 February 2026).
During interrogation, the suspect admitted that he had initially gone to the victim’s home intending to borrow money. However, the victim refused because he still had an outstanding debt that had not been repaid.
“It is suspected that, driven by resentment and anger, the suspect then took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the victim in the neck, causing her death,” he explained.
Afterwards, the suspect cleaned the knife, returned it to its original place, and took the victim’s mobile phone before fleeing the scene.
In addition to arresting the perpetrator, police secured a number of items of evidence including the knife used to kill the victim, the suspect’s clothing, a motorcycle without licence plates, a helmet, a jacket, a mobile phone, and a sling bag.
Meanwhile, Siak Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head Inspector Tidar Laksono explained that based on the examination, the suspect’s motive was resentment over being refused a loan. The suspect also claimed he killed the victim because of remarks that had offended him.
“Based on the preliminary examination, the suspect has confessed to his actions. The suspect is currently in our custody and the investigation is ongoing to complete the case file,” said Tidar.
For his actions, the suspect has been charged under Article 459, subsidiary to Article 458 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, which carries penalties of the death sentence, life imprisonment, or a maximum prison term of 20 years.
