Honda to Invest Rp688.6 Trillion in Development and Electrification
Tokyo, Japan (ANTARA) - Honda is allocating a total global investment of 6.2 trillion yen (Rp688.6 trillion) over the next three years, encompassing vehicle development, a software investment of 1 trillion yen (Rp111.07 trillion), and investments to accelerate comprehensive electrification.
Director, President and Representative Executive Officer (Global CEO) of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Toshihiro Mibe, stated that this medium- to long-term investment reaffirms Honda’s commitment to accelerating its electrification journey through increasingly mature technology, a broader product portfolio, and a new generation of vehicle architecture designed for future mobility.
“Honda will continue to deliver products that are not only efficient and relevant to current consumer needs but also maintain the enjoyable driving experience that is a hallmark of Honda. We want to ensure that the transformation towards the era of electrification remains in line with the character and values that Honda consumers around the world have trusted for so long,” said Toshihiro, in a press release received in Jakarta, Friday.
Both prototypes are based on a new hybrid system, ranging from the platform and drive system to the redesigned electric AWD unit. This means that the cars are designed specifically from scratch for this new technology, rather than adapting older models to the new platform.
Toshihiro said that this system is part of Honda’s more comprehensive electrification architecture and will be the foundation for Honda’s global vehicle portfolio in the coming years.
Starting in 2027, Honda will gradually introduce models from this generation in several priority global markets, with a target of 15 new models by the end of fiscal year 2030.
This generation is designed to deliver 10 percent better energy efficiency compared to the previous generation, with a more responsive and enjoyable driving experience as a hallmark of Honda.
In its global roadmap, Honda places Asia, including India and the ASEAN region, as a strategic part of the company’s long-term growth.
This latest generation of technology will be introduced in the region with an approach tailored to the character and needs of consumers in each market, rather than simply adapting from global models.
Along with the development of this latest generation of technology, Honda is also continuing to strengthen the foundation for the next generation of electric vehicle platforms, solid-state battery technology, and the latest generation of ADAS systems, which are planned to be available in the market starting in 2028.
All of these steps are part of Honda’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
