Jakarta — The Palur–Sragen national highway in Central Java has been assured to be flood-free during the 2026 Eid homecoming travel period following road elevation work and pavement improvements at several flood-prone locations.

These measures form part of the road preservation work currently underway on the stretch.

Novi Krisnawati, Commitment Making Official (PPK) 3.5 for the Surakarta–Palur–Sragen–Mantingan section at the Major Implementation Office of National Roads (BBPJN) for Central Java Province under the Directorate General of Road Development (Ditjen Bina Marga) of the Ministry of Public Works, stated that road elevation work has been carried out at locations that have frequently experienced flooding during the rainy season.

This was communicated by Novi during a field inspection of the North Coast Highway in Sragen, Central Java, on Thursday, 14 March 2026.

She explained that the Palur–Sragen section is currently undergoing a road preservation project that was contracted in 2025 and is planned to run for three years until 2027. The work is now in its second year.

According to Novi, some work supporting smooth holiday travel has already been completed, including approximately two kilometres of rigid concrete pavement that has already been used by vehicles.

“Our colleagues have already travelled across our rigid concrete work, which is approximately two kilometres in length and has already been completed,” she said.

In addition to road surfacing, several other supporting works are also being carried out, such as median road construction, installation of U-Ditch drainage channels, and pavement improvement through major and minor rehabilitation.

Novi added that road elevation at the flood-prone locations has proven effective in reducing waterlogging during periods of high rainfall in recent times.

“Throughout 2025 to the present, despite fairly high rainfall, praise be to God, there has been no more flooding. Traffic flows smoothly and the local community feels supported,” she said.

The Palur–Sragen stretch is a strategic route connecting Central Java with East Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY).

Currently, the progress of preservation work on the stretch has reached approximately 41 percent with a positive deviation of approximately 16.7 percent. Meanwhile, financial progress stands at approximately 38 percent.

After the Eid period, further work will continue at several points along the highway.
