Jakarta — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has authorised homebound travellers (pemudik) to store their personal vehicles at government offices operated by the Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI) during the 2026 Lebaran exodus period.

Under this policy, homebound travellers may store their personal vehicles across various government facilities, ranging from village headman offices (kantor lurah), sub-district offices (kantor camat), to city offices (kantor wali kota) distributed throughout Jakarta.

“Certainly, the Jakarta Provincial Government will permit homebound travellers who wish to store their vehicles, particularly motorcycles, at offices owned by the Jakarta Provincial Government,” Pramono stated when met in the Pondok Rangon area, Cipayung Sub-district, East Jakarta, on Wednesday.

He stated that this policy was implemented to provide security and comfort for residents who leave their vehicles whilst returning to their hometowns.

Separately, Pemprov DKI has dispatched 744 buses to 20 cities across six provinces as part of its free Lebaran travel programme, which ran on Tuesday (17 March).

“Including yesterday when we organised free travel, the number came to roughly 35,000 passengers across 744 buses,” Pramono said.

On Monday (17 March), he noted, approximately 900 motorcycles were dispatched towards their owners’ hometowns.

According to Pramono, this measure was taken because long-distance motorcycle travel carries significant fatigue risks for travellers.

The majority of homebound travellers participating in this programme have now safely reached their respective hometowns.

“Alhamdulillah (praise be to God), those travelling by motorcycle had their bikes loaded onto trucks whilst they travelled inside the vehicles. Now, most of them have safely arrived at their respective hometowns, and it has been running smoothly and safely,” Pramono explained.
