Home stays in North Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): The North Jakarta mayoralty has asked several families around the Sunda Kelapa port area in North Jakarta to participate in home stays for tourists.

"Tourists are fed up with staying at hotels," Mayor Suprawito said Sunday. "They would prefer to stay with residents to get to know the life and culture," he said.

He also said residents should support the home stay program.

The Suara Pembaruan afternoon daily reported yesterday that the mayor hoped that residents would improve their surroundings to attract tourists. A resident, Yunus, who came from South Sulawesi, said that he would even rebuild his house if necessary, in native Bugis style. (anr)
