Home Affairs Minister Says Civil Servants Who Go Out During WFH Can Be Detected, Location Tracked via Mobile Phones
JAKARTA - The Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, stated that Civil Servants (ASN) who leave their homes while undertaking Work From Home (WFH) can be immediately monitored. “In the past, when I was absent, there was a system called SIMPEG (Employee Management Information System), an employee administration system. So, to ensure that employees are truly working from home and are at home,” Tito said when met at the Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/3/2026). Referring to experiences during the COVID-19 period, Tito said that ASN were required to be on standby every day at 07:30 WIB. “They must have their phones on. After that, they register; at 07:30 they do online check-ins. Phones must be on, from there the duty officers can find out their location,” he explained. According to Tito, this system allows officers to access the ASN’s GPS from their phones. That way, he said, stubborn ASN who go out during WFH can be immediately detected. “The GPS must be activated. So if their location shows they are out and about, it will be known. Perhaps one of them, possibly, one of the mechanisms of SIMPEG that we will use,” he added.
