Home Affairs Minister (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian has revealed that a number of coordinating ministers and technical ministers have agreed on a day to implement work from home (WFH) per week as part of efforts to save fuel oil (BBM). Tito stated that the implementation of the WFH day is merely awaiting a report to President Prabowo Subianto and an official announcement to the public.

Tito mentioned that the agreement was reached in a meeting involving Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Pratikno, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. The meeting discussed studies on government measures to address the potential crisis resulting from the Middle East conflict.

“We had a meeting yesterday, lasting almost three or four hours. Yes, but we agreed to speak with one voice, meaning whoever delivers it, I don’t know who, (the meeting was) at the Palace. Whether it’s Mr Coordinating Minister for PMK, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, or perhaps by Mr State Secretary (who will announce it). So, we only provide inputs, but I’m not authorised to convey it to the public,” Tito said after a press conference on the PHTC update at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/3/2026).

Tito declined to disclose the agreed-upon day. Because, he said, the meeting’s outcome still needs to be reported to the President first.

“I don’t want to mention it; actually, yesterday it was already almost leaning towards a majority agreeing on one day, the same one, but I won’t say it again because the results of yesterday’s meeting must be reported to the President,” he stated.

Furthermore, Tito emphasised that neither the central government nor regional governments have any issues with the proposal to implement WFH one day per week. He recalled that the scheme had been implemented during the COVID outbreak.

“No problem for me. I’m sure there won’t be any problems because this isn’t the first experience. During the COVID era, WFH was even implemented with only 25% working from the office. The Home Affairs Ministry was at 25% WFO and it still ran. So, it’s not something new; we have experience,” he said.
