JAKARTA - The Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, emphasised that nearly 100 percent of the displaced persons following the disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra (Sumut), and West Sumatra (Sumbar) are no longer living in tents.

“Displaced persons from the Sumatra disasters are approaching 100 percent not in tents during Eid,” said Tito when met at his residence in the Senayan area, Jakarta, on Monday (23/3/2026).

Based on data as of 23 March 2026, the Head of the Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Post-Sumatra Disasters stated that there are 173 individuals or 47 family heads (KK) still living in tents.

“Specifically, displaced persons are approaching 100 percent, approaching the term, I don’t say 100 percent approaching because there are still these 47 KK, which is 173 individuals. Approaching 100 percent no longer in tents,” Tito remarked.

He also conveyed this directly when the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, visited Aceh to perform Eid prayers on 21 March 2026.

“That’s what I told the President, from 2 million initially at the beginning of 2 December, now it’s down to approximately 173 individuals, from 2 million down to 173 individuals,” he said.

According to Tito, his side has also prepared scenarios to handle the remaining hundreds of displaced persons.

“But there are already scenarios,” Tito continued.

“If based on the number of regions, I say regions based on aspects, regions yes, districts/cities. From 52 districts/cities that are already normal, 38. That means 73 percent of the regions,” he stated.
