Aceh Tamiang, Aceh — Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian held an iftar gathering with Aceh Tamiang evacuees who have been residing in temporary shelters (huntara) in Karang Baru, Aceh Tamiang, Aceh.

“Today we held our first iftar together on the first day of Ramadan — the government’s version, of course,” said Tito at the iftar event with the Aceh Tamiang community in Karang Baru on Thursday.

Tito urged the community to be grateful for the shared iftar, particularly in the aftermath of the flash floods that struck Aceh Tamiang at the end of November 2025.

“During the previous disaster, one of the most severely affected areas was Aceh Tamiang. We are still working hard to restore the area, and God willing, it will be even better,” Tito said.

The minister cited road conditions, electricity, internet connectivity, as well as the resumption of activity at markets and shops as key indicators of the area’s recovery.

“Everything is becoming visible, but it is not yet complete. There is still much we want to accomplish,” he said.

The iftar meal was prepared by military personnel from Kodim 0117/Aceh Tamiang. Soldiers cooked 2,500 portions of kuah beulangong, a traditional Acehnese dish, for the inaugural iftar at the temporary shelters in Karang Baru.

Kodim 0117/Aceh Tamiang Commander Lieutenant Colonel Subhi Fitra Jaya said the kuah beulangong menu was chosen because it is considered a special delicacy for the Acehnese people.

Kuah beulangong is a traditional Acehnese curry made from goat or beef, cooked with young jackfruit in a large cauldron (beulangong) over firewood.

Subhi said at least 180 kilogrammes of meat had been prepared for the dish, with around 30 military personnel deployed to organise the event.

“This feast is for everyone in this complex, approximately 600 households. The iftar menu is also shared with the surrounding community — it is not only for those in the temporary shelters who can join here,” Subhi said.
