Home Affairs Minister and Housing Minister Review Slum Settlement Programme in Kubu Raya
Home Affairs Minister (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian, alongside Housing and Settlement Area Minister (PKP) Maruarar Sirait, conducted a site inspection of the Programme for Handling Slum Settlement Infrastructure and Facilities in Parit Baru village, Kubu Raya district, West Kalimantan, on Monday, 2 March 2026.
The visit aimed to ensure the programme was progressing according to target and addressing community needs. At the location, both ministers engaged in dialogue with residents and stakeholders to directly hear about developments in basic infrastructure construction, including housing improvements and environmental management.
The Government reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to improve the quality of residential areas. In his statement to journalists, Tito highlighted the importance of accurate data on uninhabitable dwellings as the foundation for policy-making. He urged local government (pemda) to continue coordinating with the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) to ensure data consistency.
This step is important to prevent overlap or gaps in service delivery in certain areas. Without unified data, policies risk being misaligned with on-the-ground needs. “Data reconciliation like this should already be available by name and address; it just needs to be matched,” Tito said.
He emphasised that data accuracy and alignment are key to ensuring the settlement quality improvement programme genuinely targets those in need. Therefore, he urged Kubu Raya Regency Government (Pemkab) and BPS to conduct comprehensive verification and data alignment.
The programme includes exemptions from building permit fees (Persetujuan Bangunan Gedung/PBG) and land and building acquisition tax (Bea Perolehan Hak atas Tanah dan Bangunan/BPHTB) for low-income households (MBR).
