Home Affairs Minister (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian, along with Housing and Settlement Areas Minister (PKP) Maruarar Sirait, reviewed the implementation of the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) programme in Nagasaribu IV Village, Lintong Nihuta Subdistrict, Humbang Hasundutan Regency (Humbahas), North Sumatra (Sumut), on Thursday (26/3/2026).

The review was conducted to ensure the readiness and accuracy of targeting for the 2026 fiscal year BSPS programme, which aims to enhance the quality of housing for the community, particularly for residents still occupying unfit dwellings (RTLH).

“This programme is to help people who do not yet have a house or already have one but it is not habitable,” said Tito during the event, as per a press release received by Kompas.com on Wednesday.

The number of BSPS recipients in Sumut for 2026 has increased significantly. The total number of houses to be repaired reaches 19,668 units, a sharp rise compared to the 2025 realisation of 1,982 units.

This figure is part of the national BSPS target for 2026, which reaches 400,000 house units.

Out of 33 regencies/cities receiving allocations in Sumut, Humbang Hasundutan Regency receives an allocation of 457 house units.

“This unity must be maintained, including in building self-help houses that require mutual cooperation,” he stated.

Tito also emphasised that providing habitable housing is closely linked to efforts to alleviate poverty, including extreme poverty.

This also serves as one of the performance evaluation indicators for regional heads by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri).

Therefore, support from local governments (pemda) is deemed important to ensure optimal programme implementation.

Furthermore, Tito revealed that the government has provided various facilitations for low-income communities (MBR) in house construction.

Tito added that this policy is a form of cross-ministerial synergy to accelerate the national housing programme.

On that occasion, he also appreciated the local government and community of Humbahas for the acceleration of post-disaster recovery. Tito assessed that the area’s condition is now almost fully recovered.

“I am impressed with Humbahas. The unity of the Regent, the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), and the community is extraordinary. The road that was previously closed by a landslide could be opened in just four days,” he said.

As information, the event was also attended by Regent of Humbahas Oloan Paniaran Nababan, Forkopimda officials, regional apparatus organisations (OPD), community figures, building materials business actors, and local residents.
