Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) Hidayat Nur Wahid (HNW) condemned attacks on several Middle Eastern countries that targeted strategic economic and civilian targets. The attacks were seen as potentially widening the conflict, including possible disruption to Ras Tanura refinery production owned by Aramco in Saudi Arabia and LNG production in Qatar, as well as attacks on civilian facilities such as a girls’ school in Minab and Gandhi Hospital in Tehran, Iran.

HNW said that attacks on vital non-military economic targets in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, as well as civilian facilities such as the girls’ school in Minab and Gandhi Hospital in Tehran, must be strongly condemned for violating international law. He also urged the member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OKI) in the Middle East to be vigilant and not fall into the ‘false flag’ trap that could drag the region into open war.

“A provocation and attacks on civilian/economic/non-military targets is a pattern that has long been used by Israel against the Palestinian people in Gaza and elsewhere. It must be watched when this tactic recurs in Israel’s war against Iran, where schools, including girls’ schools, and hospitals have already been victims of Israeli strikes,” he said in a written statement, Wednesday (4/3/2026).

“But also Iran’s retaliatory attacks targeting vital non-military economic targets in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, whoever the perpetrators, must be watched and condemned, because attacks on non-military targets and civilians clearly violate international law, are not in accordance with the UN Charter, the OKI Statute, and are not justified in Islam,” he added.

HNW said that American conservative activist and political commentator Tucker Carlson claimed involvement of Israeli Mossad agents in false-flag operations in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. He said a similar pattern was also alluded to by Rabbi Yosef Mizrahi regarding attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque. On the other hand, Qatar announced the arrest of two groups claiming to be pro-Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, thus all parties’ vigilance should be heightened.

He hopes international bodies such as the United Nations (UN) and OKI will take decisive steps to stop the war and impose sanctions on those proven to attack non-military targets, whether openly or through false flags.

“So that the war can stop soon and not spread further, given the casualties mainly among non-military civilians including vital non-military economic projects. And especially if the culmination of all these attacks opens a wide path to the expansion of Israel’s occupation towards the establishment of a Greater Israel, while Gaza and the Palestinian resistance/development are neglected, and the Palestinians would be buried as a state despite recognition by more than 153 UN member states, and instead of this, an expansion of Israel leading to ‘Greater Israel’ as a state.

“He further called on the OKI Secretariat-General to actively safeguard the sovereignty of member states affected by the conflict, prevent sowing discord, and push for an extraordinary OKI summit at the heads of state level. This step is important so that the conflict does not widen and weaken the ability of OKI member states to save Al-Aqsa Mosque and realise Palestinian independence.

He argued that those who continually violate international law, and have already been ruled on by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and with arrest warrants from the International Criminal Court (ICC), yet continue to breach peace agreements in the Balance of Power (BoP) context, i.e., Israel, would benefit from Gulf states being drawn into a confrontation with Iran. This situation would facilitate the realisation of a project to establish Greater Israel.

According to HNW, the project could threaten the sovereignty of OKI members by opening up the possibility of annexation of territories, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, Turkey, Syria, as well as the Kuwait, Jordan, and Lebanon areas. He stressed this scenario would not only threaten regional stability but also weaken solidarity among OKI members in pursuing common interests.

“Importantly, the attempt to sow conspiracy by Israel should instead spur OKI members to cooperate and strengthen their solidarity as members of OKI established to help and safeguard Al-Aqsa Mosque and Palestinian independence, not to undermine each other and allow Israel to expand its territories to a Greater Israel, which would perpetuate the occupation of Palestine and the destruction of Al-Aqsa Mosque,” he concluded.
