HMS Prince of Wales and KNM Roald Amundsen Arrive in Indo-Pacific, Norwegian Frigate Heading for Indonesia
Carrier Strike Group 25, led by the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales, has officially commenced operations in the Indo-Pacific, according to a press release from the British Ministry of Defence.
The Norwegian frigate KNM Roald Amundsen is sailing alongside the British carrier, together with warships from Canada, Spain and New Zealand.
In recent days, the frigate has been docked in Singapore for an extended port call, the Norwegian Navy reported. Prior to arriving in Singapore, the Roald Amundsen stopped in Sri Lanka to refuel.
In the Arabian Sea, between India and the Arabian Peninsula, the carrier participated in an exercise with the Indian Navy. The Roald Amundsen did not take part in that exercise.
According to the KNM Roald Amundsen’s AIS signals — the system displaying the vessel’s position, speed and course — the frigate was just off Singapore on Wednesday afternoon, heading towards Indonesia.
The voyage will subsequently continue to Japan and South Korea, before the carrier strike group participates in the Australian-led exercise Talisman Sabre.
KNM Roald Amundsen departed from Haakonsvern naval base in Bergen in April. Over a period of eight months, the Nansen-class frigate will sail with the carrier group in an operation designated Operation Highmast.
