The culmination of the 2026 National Elderly Day (HLUN) at the Governor’s Residence in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Saturday (30 May) was made more meaningful by the provision of various health services for seniors. After a health walk and exercise session, elderly participants enthusiastically underwent health checks, blood donation, physiotherapy, and hearing tests.

All health services were provided free of charge and resulted from collaboration between the Ministry of Social Affairs, NTT Provincial Health Office, Kupang City Health Office, Kupang City Community Health Centres, Bhayangkara Hospital, and NTT Red Cross (PMI).

Governor Johni Asadoma stated that the HLUN 2026 celebrations in NTT featured diverse activities benefiting the community. The系列活动 ran from 1 May and are scheduled to conclude on 31 May.

‘For an entire month, Ministry of Social Affairs staff and officials collaborated with local governments, visiting all 22 regencies and cities in NTT. They went directly to the field to implement tangible programs with immediate impact,’ Johni said in a written statement on Sunday, 31 May 2026.

Johni expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Social Affairs and pride that NTT was chosen as host for HLUN 2026 for the first time. ‘The central government, through Indonesia’s Ministry of Social Affairs, has entrusted the NTT provincial government to host the National Elderly Day for the first time. It is an immense honour,’ he said.

Meanwhile, Social Rehabilitation Director-General Supomo stated that the event was made possible through multi-stakeholder collaboration. He also urged the public to increase care and attention towards vulnerable groups, including the elderly. ‘We consistently encourage the public to show concern, care, and affection for all our families, especially the elderly,’ Supomo said after the event.

On the sidelines, Honimus Tupen, a 70-year-old senior from Sikumana Village, expressed happiness at receiving free health checks and consultations. He hopes such events will continue annually. ‘If possible, this should be held every year, as we no longer have income or employment. Free medical treatment and assistive devices are extremely helpful,’ Honimus said in a written statement on Sunday, 31 May 2026.

At the same venue, Opa Sony also benefited from the free health checks and treatment, and enjoyed meeting fellow seniors during the HLUN 2026 event. ‘I’m very happy to gather again with other elderly friends,’ Sony said.
