The Indonesian Industrial Zones Association (HKI) and the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) held a strategic meeting to strengthen coordination for accelerating investment and developing national industrial zones. Led by KSP Chief, retired General Prof Dudung Abdurachman, the meeting addressed investment obstacles faced by industrial zones and steps to expedite their resolution.

HKI Chairman Akhmad Ma’ruf Maulana stated that Indonesia remains highly attractive to investors. However, key challenges include execution speed, policy synchronisation, and certainty in on-ground processes.

“Investor interest in Indonesia remains strong, but they are concerned about speeding up investment processes, ensuring policy alignment, and clear timelines,” Ma’ruf said in a written statement on Friday (29 May).

HKI highlighted several strategic issues affecting industrial zone operators nationwide, including implementation of National Strategic Projects (NSPs), Special Economic Zone (SEZ) development, the Spatial Utilisation Activity Compatibility (KKPR) process, electricity supply business areas, land use planning synchronisation with agricultural protection policies, and Batam’s investment climate.

Ma’ruf noted that most of these issues require strengthened inter-ministerial and inter-agency coordination to resolve them faster and provide investors with certainty.

“Investment competition is no longer just between regions but between countries. Investors compare Indonesia with Vietnam, Malaysia, and other regional nations. Therefore, legal certainty, time certainty, and swift decision-making are critical factors for national investment competitiveness,” he added.

Ma’ruf affirmed HKI’s readiness to serve as a strategic government partner in accelerating national industrialisation. Strengthening cross-sector coordination, speeding up land use obstacle resolution, ensuring permit certainty, utility availability, and central-local policy synchronisation are key to boosting Indonesia’s competitiveness in the increasingly fierce global investment landscape.

“Indonesia has a strong opportunity to become a new industrial growth hub in Asia. With robust coordination, regulatory certainty, and faster on-ground execution, we are confident that investment will continue to grow, more jobs will be created, and national economic growth targets will be met,” Ma’ruf said.

At the meeting, Dudung Abdurachman affirmed the KSP’s commitment to helping resolve obstacles hindering investment acceleration and industrial zone development.

“I will inventory the issues, report them directly to the President, and work with relevant ministries to find solutions so these investment obstacles can be resolved swiftly,” Dudung stated.

He emphasised that the KSP would strengthen inter-ministerial and inter-agency coordination, particularly regarding persistent issues that have delayed on-ground investment implementation.

“If any region or industrial zone faces chronic issues hindering investment, report them to us. I am ready to visit the site to see the problems firsthand,” Dudung stressed.

Dudung also noted that industrial zones play a strategic role in supporting national industrialisation, natural resource downstreaming, job creation, and sustainable economic growth.

“We appreciate HKI’s contribution to national industrial progress, job creation, and economic growth. Industrial zones are vital in achieving national development targets and realising Golden Indonesia,” he concluded.
