Cross-sector collaboration and data openness are key to accelerating tuberculosis (TB) handling in regions. Additionally, support from regional heads, availability of health service facilities, and involvement of cadres are essential assets in driving this acceleration.

This was conveyed by Deputy Interior Minister of the Republic of Indonesia (Wamendagri) Akhmad Wiyagus during the Strengthening Commitment and Real Action for Tuberculosis Control event at the Semergou Hall, Bandar Lampung City Government Office.

According to Wiyagus, TB handling is a serious concern for the central government, with a target resolution within three years. These efforts are continuously promoted through various regional activities as a form of strengthening collective commitment.

“The President has given special attention. This must be completed within three years,” said Wiyagus in a written statement on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

In line with this target, Wiyagus emphasised the importance of an active field approach, particularly through early detection of potentially exposed communities, so that handling can be carried out quickly and accurately.

On that occasion, Wiyagus also assessed that the Bandar Lampung City Government has demonstrated readiness in TB handling. Nevertheless, he reiterated that data openness is a key factor that cannot be ignored.

Accurate and transparent data will facilitate the government in determining appropriate intervention steps.

“No need to fear revealing the actual data; there should be no hidden data,” Wiyagus stressed.

Furthermore, Wiyagus affirmed that TB handling cannot be done partially but requires collaboration from all parties, from local governments (Pemda) to the community.

Wiyagus encouraged a proactive approach by directly reaching out to the community, rather than just waiting for patients to come to health facilities.

“We must be proactive, not just waiting, yes, at the Puskesmas, not just waiting at the hospital; here the importance of collaboration is key,” said Wiyagus.

Wiyagus added that the TB issue is not only related to health aspects but also impacts community productivity and human resource quality.

Therefore, its handling is an important part of supporting the national development agenda, including towards Indonesia Emas 2045.

Finally, Wiyagus invited all parties to eliminate the stigma against TB in society. Wiyagus emphasised that the disease can be treated and should not be covered up.

“Tuberculosis is not a disgrace to us. It can be treated,” he concluded.
