High Plastic Prices Begin to Claim Victims, Laundry Prices Rise by Rp1,000
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The increase in plastic prices is beginning to affect laundry businesses and services. The high cost of plastic is forcing laundry shops to raise their service prices.
Based on observations by CNBC Indonesia in the Kalibata area, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (5/5/2026), laundry services have started to increase prices by around Rp1,000 to Rp2,000, where previously the laundry price was Rp7,000 per kg, now reaching Rp8,000 per kg up to Rp9,000 per kg.
One of them, Gita, a laundry service worker, revealed that since plastic prices have risen, laundry service prices have also increased. For regular laundry per kilogram, previously Rp7,000 per kg, now Rp8,000 per kg. Meanwhile, express laundry, previously Rp14,000, has become Rp15,000 per kg.
“Yes, it’s up, since plastic prices are getting more expensive, we’re also forced to raise it by Rp1,000,” said Gita when met by CNBC Indonesia.
Although laundry service prices have increased, they claim there has been no decrease in customers.
“No, there hasn’t been a drop in customers, maybe they’ve already heard that plastic is expensive,” she added.
Meanwhile, Rahma, a worker at another laundry service, has also raised prices by Rp1,000 to Rp2,000.
“Since plastic prices have gone up, whether we like it or not, we’ve had to raise laundry prices here too, the increase for regular is Rp1,000, for express it’s Rp2,000,” said Rahma.
At her shop, regular laundry now reaches Rp9,000 per kg, previously Rp8,000 per kg. Whereas for express, it has become Rp20,000 per kg, previously Rp18,000 per kg.
“Besides because of plastic prices, it’s also because gas prices have risen, because ironing clothes uses gas,” said Rahma.
