Hezbollah prepared to adhere to ceasefire if Israel ceases attacks
Beirut (ANTARA) - The Lebanese Hezbollah movement is prepared to adhere to a ceasefire if Israel stops attacking all parts of Lebanon, according to a statement by Mahmoud Qamati, a member of the Shiite group’s political leadership, on Tuesday.
“We have informed all relevant parties that we have cancelled the exchange formula between the southern outskirts of Beirut and northern settlements [in Israel],” Qamati told the Qatar-based Al-Araby broadcasting station.
Qamati continued that the group has agreed upon a real and comprehensive ceasefire and is ready to commit to it. He also stated that Hezbollah rejects the “yellow line” in southern Lebanon in order to liberate its entire territory. He further vowed to attack deeper targets in Israel if the enemy continues its aggression and bombards the outskirts of Beirut.
On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered strikes against Hezbollah targets on the outskirts of Beirut, an action described by the Iranian Foreign Ministry as a violation of the ceasefire brokered by Washington and Tehran.
On the same day, following discussions with Netanyahu and Hezbollah officials, US President Donald Trump announced that the Lebanese movement and Israel had agreed to a ceasefire. However, the Israeli military continued to carry out attacks on towns in southern Lebanon the following day.
