JAKARTA — PT Pertamina (Persero) is strengthening mitigation and safeguarding national energy supplies amid escalating conflict in the Middle East between the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Currently, three strategic business units directly interact with regional dynamics. These comprise PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) Non Captive, responsible for global energy transport operations; Pertamina Internasional EP (PIEP), which operates upstream operations in Basra, Iraq; and Pertamina Patra Niaga, which procures crude oil and products from Middle Eastern sources.

Vice President of Corporate Communication Muhammad Baron stated that all workers, operations, and fleets in the Middle East are being intensively monitored.

“Pertamina has prepared risk mitigation measures and strengthened communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Embassy in Baghdad (KBRI), the Indonesian General Consulate in Basra (KJRI), and local authorities to ensure operational continuity and crew safety,” Baron said in a statement on Monday, 2 March 2026.

He noted that Pertamina maintains a diversified crude oil, petroleum product, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply portfolio sourced from both domestic production and various partner nations.

“This diversification provides flexibility in supply management amid geopolitical dynamics,” he explained.

Additionally, Baron continued, Pertamina is optimising domestic refinery operations to maintain balanced production and distribution. Through integrated supply management spanning upstream to downstream operations, the company ensures the availability of petroleum products and LPG for the public remains safe, adequate, and controlled.

“As the frontline guardian of national energy, Pertamina is tightening surveillance and working to ensure the security of crude, petroleum product, and LPG supplies to meet the needs of all Indonesian citizens,” Baron concluded.

The escalation occurred one day after reports of the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which has intensified uncertainty regarding regional stability and the global economy.

Amid heightened tensions, at least three tanker vessels have reportedly sustained damage off the Gulf coast, according to shipping sources and maritime officials on Sunday, as cited by Reuters on Monday, 2 March 2026. A crew member was also reported killed following Iran’s retaliatory strikes against military actions by the United States and Israel, exposing commercial vessels to additional damage risks.
