Heavy Traffic Congestion to Gilimanuk Port, Vehicle Queues Extend to Sumberklampok Village
Traffic congestion heading towards Gilimanuk Port began to intensify on Monday (16 March 2026), with vehicle queues snaking as far as Sumberklampok Village, Gerokgak District, Buleleng.
Social media monitoring revealed that congestion had already begun on Sunday (15 March 2026). Rows of private vehicles and buses were visible stretching along the road towards Gilimanuk.
Buleleng Police Chief AKBP Ruzi Gusman stated that congestion was indeed occurring, but vehicle traffic continued to move and remained under control.
“Congestion has indeed occurred, but vehicles can still move well because they are simply queuing to board the ferry,” Ruzi said when confirmed on Monday (16 March 2026).
According to him, Buleleng serves as both a buffer route and alternative route for homebound vehicles heading to Gilimanuk. This situation has caused a surge in vehicle volume compared to normal times. “There is a spike in vehicles compared to morning and evening hours,” he explained.
Nevertheless, Ruzi assured that the traffic situation can still be handled by police personnel stationed along the homecoming security routes. Security measures were implemented from the Singaraja area through to the Cekik route before entering Gilimanuk Port.
“Throughout monitoring by personnel we have deployed for security along the route from Singaraja to Cekik towards Gilimanuk, everything can still be handled well. The congestion currently is due to vehicles waiting in queue to board the ferry,” he said.
Buleleng Police also continued to monitor and regulate traffic flow to ensure the journey of homebound travellers remains safe and smooth ahead of the peak homecoming period.
