Extreme weather in the form of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds hit Jembrana, Bali, from Wednesday night (4 March 2026) to Thursday early hours (5 March 2026). The severe weather triggered trees to topple, damaged roofs, and caused power outages.

The acting head of the Jembrana Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), I Putu Agus Artana Putra, said there were five tree-falling incidents occurring in quick succession. “The incidents were triggered by very high rainfall accompanied by strong winds. The fast-response team (TRC) was immediately deployed to handle the situation in the locations,” Artana told detikBali on Thursday (5 March 2026).

BPBD Jembrana data show the distribution of fallen trees across several locations. One was on Jalan Raya Denpasar-Gilimanuk, just east of BaliMed General Hospital (RSU BaliMed), Dangin Tukadaya Village. A tree about 10 metres tall fell there around 23:20 WITA, blocking the road.

Next, a coconut tree about 6 metres tall toppled in Mertasari neighbourhood, Lelateng sub-district, at 23:30 WITA, blocking the village road. Another tree about 10 metres tall toppled in Banjar Dauh Pangkung Jangu, Pohsanten Village, at 23:55 WITA.

In Banjar Ngoneng, Mendoyo Dauh Tukad Village, two trees fell at once — a coconut tree and a lamtoro tree. The two trees, only about 500 metres apart, fell at 23:50 WITA and blocked access to the road.

“All tree debris has been evacuated by officers together with residents. Road access has now returned to normal,” Artana added.

Roof Damage

The extreme weather did not only impact fallen trees. Several homes in Melaya and Negara districts were reported to have roof damage.

Melaya Police Chief, Kompol I Ketut Sukadana, said the roof of I Ketut Merta Atmaja’s house in Banjar Sumbersari tore off due to the wind. “Around 20 tiles fell as a result of the strong wind and have since been repaired by the owner today,” he said.

More serious was Nyoman Nilya, a resident of Banjar Tengah, Tegal Badeng Barat, Negara District. Fifteen asbestos roof sheets were destroyed and carried away by the wind.

“We are grateful we could save ourselves because the wind was swirling and our roof was torn and blown away,” Nilya told detikBali.

BPBD Jembrana is still compiling data on total material losses caused by house damage. Agus Artana urged residents to remain vigilant as extreme weather remains possible.

“We remind residents to be careful when passing through routes with many large trees. If you see potential danger, report it to BPBD so it can be handled promptly,” Artana urged.
