Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Director of Health Services for Vulnerable Groups at the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), Imran Pambudi, believes the issuance of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 marks a new chapter in the effort to strengthen child protection in the digital space.

“Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of Electronic System Administration in Child Protection, commonly referred to as PP TUNAS, opens a new chapter in protecting children in the digital world,” Imran said in Jakarta on Friday.

The regulation, he continued, provides a clearer framework for digital service providers to place child protection as a priority in the design of products and digital features.

Imran added that the presence of this regulation becomes important amid the rising use of social media and digital platforms by children and adolescents, which in some cases can trigger addictive behaviours, sleep disorders, and mental health issues.

He also highlighted the need for joint attention from government, schools, and parents in facing changes in patterns of internet use among children.

Imran conveyed data from Rumah Sakit Jiwa Menur Surabaya showing an increase in cases related to exposure to pornography and online gaming problems among those under 18 in recent years, indicating a need for stronger prevention and protection measures in the digital space.

In line with this, PP TUNAS opens space for parents to have greater control over supervising their child’s digital activities. In this way, the use of technology can continue to provide benefits without neglecting safety and the mental health aspects of children.

Under the implementing regulations of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Administration in Child Protection, or PP TUNAS, children under 16 years of age are no longer allowed to have accounts on high-risk digital platforms.

In the implementation of this regulation, accounts belonging to children under 16 on high-risk platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Thread, X, Bigolive, and Roblox will be deactivated.
