Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has assured that PBI BPJS participants who remain inactive will still receive services from hospitals. The Minister also emphasised that all participants who are treated will have their bills paid by BPJS.

“The issue in reality is that not all hospitals are implementing this; some are, but not all, and it has reached Parliament and is very disruptive. If it is very disruptive, I apologise,” said Minister Budi during a meeting with Commission IX of the DPR RI at the DPR RI in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

Minister Budi also requested that members of Commission IX of the DPR compile a list of hospitals that do not serve inactive PBI BPJS participants. He assured that action will be taken.

“First, provide us with the names of the individuals and hospitals so we can follow up. Indonesia is vast, there are many hospitals, and some may have been missed. For hospitals that understand, they might not complain to you, but those that do not comply complain because they fear non-payment,” he stated.

Minister Budi then reaffirmed that hospital parties should not fear that the healthcare service bills for these PBI BPJS participants will not be paid. He assured that all premium bills will be paid by BPJS.

“It will be paid by BPJS because there are BPJS officers and hospital staff there; once the service is provided, the hospital staff will handle it, and we will pay the premiums to BPJS. BPJS will definitely pay it,” he said.

It is known that Commission IX of the DPR has collectively grilled the Health Minister and the Social Affairs Minister regarding the condition of approximately 9 million inactive PBI BPJS participants. The ministers were questioned about these participants not being served by hospitals due to their unreactivated status.
