Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Dadan Hindayana hopes that BPJS will provide a health insurance programme for MBG beneficiaries. He says health coverage is important so that everyone has protection. MBG has so far served 61.2 million people.

Speaking via Zoom during the Kick Off BPJS Kesehatan Tanggap at the BPJS Central Office, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, he was joined by BPJS Director Chief Prihati Pujowaskito.

From January to early March 2026, MBG poisoning cases continued to be reported. JPPI recorded 1,242 victims in January. Other data indicated nearly 2,000 students were poisoned in January 2026, while BGN highlighted 47 cases spread up to 28 February 2026, mainly in Central Java (Jateng), East Java (Jatim), and West Java (Jabar).

To date, 24,443 Nutrition Service Units (SPPG) have been established. Dadan said BGN has only provided BPJS Ketenagakerjaan social security to around 1.2 thousand workers involved in MBG. BGN hopes those workers will receive BPJS Kesehatan.

“Hopefully there will be a new programme that, so far, we still need to study together,” he said.

So far, BGN has borne the full BPJS Ketenagakerjaan contributions for all volunteers and workers in the SPPG. The contribution of IDR 16,800 per worker per month covers Work Injury Guarantee (JKK) and Death Guarantee (JKM), paid directly from the BGN budget without payroll deductions.

If a workplace accident occurs, workers are treated until fully recovered, and if death occurs due to work, the heirs receive a death benefit, even scholarships for children up to university. The premium is funded by the government (BGN) through the MBG budget.

The collaboration between BGN and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan aims to ensure the welfare and security of volunteers at the communal kitchen and the distribution team.
