The Chair of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force (Satgas PRR) Muhammad Tito Karnavian has reported the latest progress on post-disaster recovery in Aceh, North Sumatra (Sumut), and West Sumatra (Sumbar) provinces. Tito stated that although several districts still require further attention, conditions in most affected areas are gradually returning to normal.

He reported that of 52 affected districts, 38 have returned to normal conditions and 3 are approaching normal status. Eleven districts across the three affected provinces still require special attention for accelerated recovery.

“We have made extraordinary progress over the past 2.5 months. However, there are still matters we need to pursue and complete,” Tito said.

Tito made these remarks during a ministerial-level coordination meeting on the development of post-natural disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction acceleration in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) in Jakarta on Friday, 27 February 2026.

Tito identified the 11 districts with special attention status as Padang Pariaman, Agam, Central Tapanuli, South Tapanuli, Bireuen, East Aceh, Central Aceh, North Aceh, Gayo Lues, Aceh Tamiang, and Pidie Jaya. All these areas require accelerated recovery across multiple indicators, including restoration of public service sectors, educational and health facilities, land access, economic and social recovery, and other essential indicators.

“Other critical indicators include fuel and petrol station supply, drinking water, internet connectivity, liquefied petroleum gas, as well as water disposal, waste management, and river normalisation,” Tito said.

Tito stressed that the task force will accelerate rehabilitation in the 11 special attention districts, beginning with mud clearing, restoring land access to isolated areas, river normalisation, and clearance of debris from flash floods and landslides that remain accumulated in several districts. He therefore called on cross-sector agencies not to reduce personnel intensity in the field to support recovery in special attention status areas.

“Personnel numbers have begun to decrease. This is a concern to prevent slowdown, to ensure our recovery pace does not decline as some personnel are being redeployed,” Tito said.

On the occasion, Tito expressed appreciation to all institutions involved, including the Ministry of Public Works, the armed forces, the national police, and others, who have been working diligently to restore national roads, provincial and district roads, and connecting bridges to support logistics supply.

The meeting was also attended by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Praktikno; Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security Djamari Chaniago; Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono; Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar; Minister of National Development Planning/Bappenas Rachmat Pambudy; and Head of the Government Goods and Services Procurement Policy Agency Sarah Sadiqa.

Additionally attending virtually were the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto; Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid; Deputy Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Veronica Tan; Head of the National Disaster Management Agency Suharyanto; and Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency Arif Satria.
