The Cianjur District DPRD in West Java has appealed to residents and workers returning home for the Eid al-Fitr exodus in 1447 Hijriah to prioritise safety and health, as vehicle volumes are expected to surge during the Lebaran travel period.

“Vigilance is necessary. Hopefully everyone will be in good health,” said Cianjur DPRD Chair Metty Triantika on Tuesday (10 March).

She also highlighted weather conditions as another critical concern during the Lebaran exodus, urging travellers to exercise greater caution, particularly those heading toward the southern regions of Cianjur.

“We must anticipate the weather since we are currently in the rainy season,” explained the Golkar Party faction legislator.

Metty has called on the local government to expedite preparations of facilities and infrastructure ahead of the exodus period, particularly the condition of roads that will be used by travellers and tourists. She emphasised that the anticipated increase in vehicle volume must be matched by adequate road infrastructure readiness, with local government agencies responsible for monitoring road quality within their respective jurisdictions.

“Road management authority is divided: the central government handles national roads, provincial government manages provincial roads, and local government oversees district roads. District roads will certainly be used by those heading home, so we must ensure roads are in good condition to provide comfort and safety for travellers,” she concluded.

The Cianjur District Government is responsible for approximately 1,335 kilometres of road, of which roughly 1,028 kilometres, or 77 per cent, are currently in good condition.

Disaster Risk Mapping

Previously, Cianjur Police Chief Senior Commissioner Akhmad Alexander Yurikho Hadi outlined disaster-prone areas identified through multi-sector coordination meetings held several days earlier. The mapping covered potential disaster risks along routes used by travellers and tourists, as well as residential areas.

He noted that in southern Cianjur, disaster risks are concentrated along road sections serving as travel routes, where steep terrain and cliff formations are prevalent.

“According to our mapping, the route to the southern region contains approximately 18 points vulnerable to hydrometeorology-related disasters, from Cibeber District extending toward the coast at Cidaun District,” he explained.

In the northern regions, covering Cipanas District and surrounding areas, several dozen locations have been identified as vulnerable to hydrometeorology disasters in residential areas, Alexander added.

“God willing, we have mapped these areas and are prepared to mitigate risks,” he affirmed.
