Hashim Raises Concerns Over Excessive Bureaucracy and Permits Frustrating Prabowo
Presidential Special Envoy for Climate and Energy Hashim Djojohadikusumo has assessed that the current challenges facing the government extend beyond combating corruption.
According to President Prabowo Subianto’s brother, convoluted and excessive bureaucratic systems remain a significant impediment to the effectiveness of government performance.
“Bureaucracy—when I refer to bureaucracy, it is not solely about corruption. Corruption is indeed a disease and affliction that we all experience,” Hashim stated in an exclusive interview with CNN Indonesia on Tuesday, 17 February.
“But beyond that, there is the matter of permits and regulations that are excessive,” he added.
The Vice Chair of Gerindra Party’s Board of Patrons noted that there are currently tens of thousands of regulations that overlap and contradict one another. According to him, this situation has left President Prabowo and his ministers considerably frustrated.
“So the President is frustrated, many ministers are frustrated,” he remarked.
Hashim attributed this to a legacy inherited from previous administrations. He revealed that several of these regulations are obsolete and disadvantageous to the nation.
Consequently, he assured that President Prabowo’s government would address the matter.
“Not only from President Jokowi’s administration, but from those before it, and before that, and before that,” Hashim said.
“This is what we must confront—many regulations that appear irrelevant and seemingly do not benefit the country and nation, and these are what we must eliminate,” he concluded.
