Harry Maguire Handed 15-Month Suspended Prison Sentence Over Greece Incident Six Years Ago
Harry Maguire, the Manchester United defender and England international, has again found himself in legal trouble linked to an old incident on the Greek island of Mykonos. A Greek court has handed him a 15-month suspended prison sentence for the incident in 2020, six years ago.
The case began with a brawl on the tourist island, leading to Maguire’s arrest by local police. Sky Sports reported on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, that the legal process for the 32-year-old has been lengthy since the initial incident. In 2020, a Greek court found Maguire guilty of several charges, including causing repeated physical harm, assaulting a public official, and attempted bribery. Two police officers were reported to have been injured in the incident. Following the verdict, Maguire appealed, which gave him the right to a full retrial at a higher court. The case subsequently saw several delays before it was resumed. At the retrial, Maguire faced three charges: simple assault, resisting arrest, and attempted bribery of an officer. The court ultimately again found the England international guilty on all counts.
