Tangerang: The Indonesian Life Insurance Industry Association (AAJI) reiterated its commitment to boosting literacy and regeneration of the industry through its presence at Kick Andy Goes to Campus at Binus Alam Sutera University, on Thursday, 26 February 2026. In a forum attended by students and representatives from member companies of AAJI, they unveiled literacy programmes, social responsibility initiatives, and the Beasiswa Harry Diah as a long-term investment in education and risk-management research.

Executive Director of AAJI, Emira E. Oepangat, outlined AAJI’s role as an umbrella organisation representing 57 life insurance companies and 6 reinsurance firms in Indonesia. Founded on 23 January 2002, AAJI acts as a platform for collaboration and industry communication to foster the development of healthy, professional, and protection-oriented life insurance.

AAJI is also the only association authorised to organise examinations and licences for professional life-insurance sales personnel. This role is undertaken in the spirit of maintaining public trust in the industry, as encapsulated in this year’s tagline, “Menjaga Kepercayaan, Mengukir Makna” (Keeping Trust, Carving Meaning).

Risk Literacy From an Early Age

In his presentation, Emira highlighted the importance of introducing the concept of protection from a young age.

“We must realise that from a young age we aren’t told to buy insurance; we are told to save. There is no song that says, ‘come on, have insurance, come on, protect against risk’,” Emira said.

According to him, literacy on risk and protection should be conveyed with an approach that is simple, easy to understand, and relevant to the younger generation.

“That is how AAJI comes with a variety of literacy and educational programmes that are simple, straightforward, engaging, and fun so that we can together foster this industry,” Emira added.

For AAJI, literacy is not merely product education, but about building awareness that risk is part of life, and readiness in managing it is a choice. With good understanding, the younger generation can plan and manage their future more effectively and responsibly.

Harry Diah Scholarship: A Long-term Investment

The commitment is realised through the Harry Diah Scholarship, named after the late Harry Harmain Diah. He was a practitioner, a professional in insurance, founder of a association, and a figure who dedicated his life to developing the insurance industry and education.

The scholarship is targeted at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students who are preparing theses, dissertations, or dissertations on topics related to the life-insurance industry, risk management, and financial protection.

“The scholarship is awarded to S1, S2, and S3 students; there will be a panel to assess relevance and whether it can stimulate the desire to learn more about risk management and insurance,” he said.

AAJI has collaborated with 13 universities in Indonesia and is opening opportunities for broader collaboration. For the organisation, the Harry Diah Scholarship is not merely financial aid but a long-term investment to produce thinkers and leaders of the future who understand the importance of protection and industry sustainability.

Through this programme, AAJI also communicates that young people have a significant opportunity to grow and contribute to this evolving industry. The life-insurance industry, which protects millions of Indonesian families, needs a new generation capable of addressing the challenges of the era—from digital transformation and global risk dynamics to changes in consumer behaviour. Research, ideas, and fresh perspectives from students form a crucial foundation for sustaining the industry.

Industry Social Responsibility: Sustainable Kindness

In addition to academic development, AAJI also emphasises its social concern through the Industry Social Responsibility (ISR) programme entitled “Kebaikan Berkelanjutan”. At the event, AAJI, together with 15 member companies, symbolically supported disaster-affected communities in Sumatra.

The floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra presented long-term challenges. Not only physical damage, but affected communities require support for education, healthcare, sanitation, clean water, and nutritious food during the post-disaster transition period.

“This programme is provided to communities hit by disasters in Sumatra with support from 15 member companies that greatly back the continuity of this programme. The programme includes sanitation and clean water provision, which are in short supply. It also provides nutritious meals. We know that children initially receive instant meals, but are they nutritious? So we provide nutritious meals and healthcare facilities. We saw hospital beds washed away on television; we direct our aid to these three elements,” Emira said.

Through these steps, AAJI emphasises that the life-insurance industry does not only participate when risk occurs but also when communities strive to recover. Life protection, health, and assets form the foundation for families to rebuild their lives after facing major risks.

Call to the Younger Generation

For students, this moment serves as a reminder that risk is part of life, but preparedness is a choice. Literacy, research, and active involvement in the industry are routes to make a real contribution.
