Harmoni Imlek Nusantara: A Momentum to Strengthen Indonesia-China Creative Diplomacy
Jakarta — Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Creative Economy and Vice Chair of the National Creative Economy Agency, as well as Chief Chair of the National Imlek Committee 2577, Irene Umar conducted a ceremonial exchange of Fire Horse mascots between Indonesia and China at the National Imlek Harmony 2577 event, affirming momentum to strengthen creative diplomacy between the two nations.
“We are not merely celebrating a tradition, but also celebrating friendship. This Fire Horse mascot exchange becomes a symbol of closeness between Indonesia and China, not only people to people, but also mascot to mascot,” said Vice Minister Ekraf Irene in a statement received on Wednesday.
The Fire Horse mascot exchange was conducted directly between Vice Minister Ekraf Irene and Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta, Wang Siping, as a symbol of spirit, courage, determination, and optimism in the Year of the Fire Horse 2577, whilst also representing the enduring friendship between Indonesia and China as they walk side by side.
Wang Siping expressed appreciation for the organisation of Harmoni Imlek Nusantara, which brought warm and inclusive atmosphere. He noted that the activity resembles celebrations in China and expressed hope that the event would continue as a bridge of friendship between the two nations.
“This atmosphere is very similar to imlek in China; this also embodies the same essence conveyed in Chinese philosophical ideas of maintaining harmony and goodwill with one another,” said Wang Siping.
“This is something very valuable, and foreign nations view it as a strength of Indonesia. This is where Indonesia is appreciated, this is where Indonesia becomes an example of difference in culture and belief, yet that is precisely what becomes Indonesia’s strength,” he added.
Harmoni Imlek Nusantara also presented artistic performances and showcased Indonesian creative talent, including singer Indah Kus who previously competed in a talent search programme in China, reflecting the significant potential of Indonesian creative talent on the global stage.
This momentum affirms that cultural collaboration is not merely a ceremony, but rather a strategic foundation in building trust and deepening Indonesia-China cooperation sustainably.
