Hariyanto, Susi placed second on IBF list

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's Hariyanto Arbi has slipped to second place after holding onto the number one position for some time in the International Badminton Federation's rankings.

International Badminton Federation (IBF) announced the rankings over the weekend, surprisingly placing Peter Rasmusen of Denmark at the top of the list with 291.94 points. Hariyanto is second with 282.90 points. Another Dane, Poul-Erik Hoyer-Larsen, is in third place with 271.32 points.

Indonesia, however, has three other players in IBF's best 10. Hermawan Susanto is in seventh place with 225.29 points, followed by Ardy Wiranata in eighth place with 223.43 points and Indra Wijaya in 10th place with 217.67 points.

Hariyanto became number one in the world after winning the Singapore Open in July, pushing China's Dong Jiong into second place.

In the women's rankings, Susi Susanti of Indonesia also slid to second place behind China's Ye Zhaoying.

Susi was also previously number one in the world. But a series of defeats push her below the first ranking.

Susi won the World Cup badminton championship in Yogyakarta in September and this earned her second spot in the IBF rankings with 307.27.

Ye, placed first, scored 333.15 points. Gong Zhicao, also from China, is third with 303.64 points.

Indonesia's Mia Audina, who was fourth, slid to sixth place with 262.25 points. Camilia Martin of Denmark took over Mia's place as number four with 273.26 points. (lnt)
