The government has officially handed over 120 permanent housing units (huntap) in the first phase to victims of hydrometeorological disasters in South Tapanuli Regency (Tapsel), North Sumatra. The Minister of Home Affairs and Head of the Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Post-Disaster Sumatra, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, stated that the construction of huntap in the region is one of the fastest in disaster management in Sumatra.

This was conveyed at the Handover Ceremony of Keys for Phase One 120 Permanent Housing Units for Disaster Victims in Tapsel Regency, North Sumatra, today, Friday (27/3).

“Well, this is one of the fastest collaborative efforts, the fastest I can say. The quickest,” said Tito in a written statement, Friday (27/3/2026).

Tito explained that the acceleration of huntap construction is determined by three main stages: the local government’s ability to compile victim data by name and address (by name by address), field verification by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), and the construction phase involving various parties such as the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PKP), and non-governmental parties like the Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation.

On that occasion, he also appreciated the steps taken by the Regent of Tapsel, Gus Irawan, who was deemed prompt in submitting complete damage data, from light, moderate, to severe categories. The completeness of this data also accelerated the disbursement of temporary housing funds (DTH) of Rp1.8 million for three months during the displacement period.

“That is also because of the data from Mr. Regent (of Tapsel submitted quickly),” he revealed.

In addition to DTH, affected residents also received various other aids, such as Life Assurance benefits (Jadup) from the Ministry of Social Affairs amounting to Rp15,000 per person per day, household furniture assistance of Rp3 million, and economic stimulus support of Rp5 million.

Furthermore, Tito emphasised that the success of handling in Tapsel can serve as an example for other affected regions. The government is encouraging regional heads in other impacted areas to emulate the speed and completeness of name-and-address-based data collection as done in Tapsel.

This is crucial given the disaster’s widespread impact, covering 52 regencies/cities spread across Aceh Province, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra.

“The faster we receive it, the faster BPS can conduct field verification, the faster, then BNPB can move, Bang Ara, the Minister of PKP will also move quickly,” Tito concluded.

For information, in the construction of huntap, the government provides three schemes according to community conditions, namely in-situ huntap handled by BNPB, communal huntap built by the Ministry of PKP, and independent relocation.
