The owner of Hanania Travel, Ahmad Syah Farhan (ASF), has been reported to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police by several prospective umrah and hajj pilgrims. Farhan is suspected of defrauding the pilgrims. Detikcom observed at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s SPKT (Public Service and Information Desk) on Thursday, 28 May 2026, where dozens of victims exited the facility throughout the afternoon, each carrying police reports. At around 7:39 PM WIB, Farhan was seen leaving the SPKT. He was escorted by dozens of victims as they walked away from the scene, with police later riding with him on a motorcycle amid cheers from the victims. Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s Public Relations Chief, Kombes Budi Hermanto, confirmed the report regarding alleged fraud by Hanania Travel. ‘It is true that the Jakarta Metropolitan Police received a report on 28 May 2026 regarding alleged umrah travel fraud involving Hanania Travel,’ Kombes Budi told journalists on Thursday. Budi stated that one victim, identified as NN, suffered losses after paying money for umrah travel but was not dispatched as promised. ‘The complainant NN feels defrauded by defendant ASF after paying for umrah travel arrangements, but was unable to depart on the scheduled date,’ he added. Farhan has been reported under suspected violations of Articles 492, 486, and 607 of the Criminal Code (KUHP). Victim and representative Joko explained the reason for filing the report, stating that pilgrims noticed irregularities in the umrah departure process. ‘We filed a report against Mr Ahmad Syah Farhan, the President Director of PT Hanania, a travel agency that claims to be professional. The pilgrims felt something was amiss with the departure process which should have already occurred,’ Joko told journalists at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police on Thursday. Joko said victims had settled payments for umrah trips but, after mediation in South Jakarta, agreed to take the matter to the police for discussion and to file a report. ‘Most of us had paid in full, but the process remained unclear. There was a mediation at Hanania’s office in Kokas, but the pilgrims agreed to bring him here to discuss and seek a resolution, hence the report,’ he added. Joko claimed to have lost Rp60 million, adding that around 300 victims were involved, with 127 present at the police station. ‘For me, it’s Rp60 million. Earlier, I spoke to Farhan persuasively, asking, “Han, how much do you need to refund in total?” It’s a significant amount—he mentioned up to Rp60 billion. Roughly,’ he said. ‘There were 127 people here today, representing over 300 victims,’ he concluded.
