Haedar Nashir's Message Amid Idul Fitri 2026 Differences: Do Not Seek Self-Justification
Chairman of the Central Leadership (PP) of Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir, invited all citizens and national elites to make the momentum of Idul Fitri 1447 H a path to drawing closer to Allah SWT. He emphasised the importance of bringing values of ihsan into personal life as well as national life.
This message was delivered by Haedar after performing prayers and delivering the Idul Fitri 1447 H sermon at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on Friday (20/3).
Regarding the differences in determining Idul Fitri, Haedar urged the public not to sharpen the existing differences. He stressed that differences are normal and should not become a source of conflict.
“We do not need to sharpen the differences, let alone seek self-justification by blaming others. Both in the context of citizenship and government, all parties must restrain themselves,” he said.
He also invited religious figures and national elites to avoid statements or words that could muddy the atmosphere in society. According to him, Idul Fitri should be observed with devotional worship and clarity of soul and mind.
“Observe Idul Fitri with devotion, whether celebrating on 20 or 21 March, or even earlier, so that we do not get trapped in the desire for differences that instead fracture unity,” he added.
Haedar expressed his belief that the Indonesian nation has the maturity to address differences. He also hoped that in the future, the Islamic world could have a single global calendar to minimise differences in determining major religious days.
“In the future, insya Allah, those differences can be minimised if there is openness of heart and mind, and based on high scientific knowledge,” he said.
Haedar called for the importance of exemplary conduct from national elites in maintaining unity, peace, and tolerance, while also encouraging the progress of the ummah and the nation.
“Provide an example to the people that the elites are able to become uswah hasanah in creating unity, peace, tolerance, and progress. We still have various backwardnesses that require collective hard work from all components of the nation,” he concluded.
The determination of the beginning of the month of Syawal 1447 H was made by referring to the Decision of the 32nd National Deliberation on Tarjih Muhammadiyah regarding the Single Global Hijriah Calendar (KHGT).
Muhammadiyah will officially launch the Single Global Hijriah Calendar (KHGT) at the Convention Hall of the Universitas ’Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta campus on Wednesday (25/6).
