H-7 Lebaran, 50,000 Migrants Leave Jakarta, Train Tickets Sold Out
The Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah migration wave has begun flowing steadily from Indonesia’s capital. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational Area (Daop) 1 Jakarta recorded that nearly 50,000 passengers departed Jakarta on Saturday, 14 March, exactly seven days (H-7) before Eid al-Fitr, which is estimated to fall on 21 April.
KAI Daop 1 Jakarta Public Relations Manager Franoto Wibowo stated that based on data recorded until 11:42 WIB, a total of 49,895 passengers had departed from various stations within the Daop 1 region. Meanwhile, the incoming passenger flow to Jakarta also showed movement with a figure of 30,841 people.
Specifically at Gambir Station, departure volume reached 17,176 people. To anticipate the continuing surge, KAI Daop 1 has deployed a total of 80 train services, consisting of 68 regular services and 12 additional special services from Gambir.
Several long-distance train services have become the public’s preferred option for returning home this year. Cumulatively, since the Eid transport season began on 11 March through today, a total of 166,821 passengers have been dispatched from the Jakarta Daop 1 region.
For prospective migrants who do not yet have tickets, KAI issued a serious warning. Data shows that the period from 15 to 20 March 2026 represents the period with the highest ticket sales. Franoto emphasised that during this date range, remaining seats are already below the 1,000-seat mark. “This means these dates are nearly fully booked,” he stated.
To date, of the total 1,076,196 seats provided during the Eid transport season, 698,021 tickets have been sold. With an average occupancy rate of 65 percent, approximately 377,902 seats remain available for departures outside these peak dates. The public is urged to make reservations immediately through the official application to avoid running out of tickets.
KAI Daop 1 Jakarta confirmed that the peak return flow has begun to be felt. The operator recorded that 103,000 seats remain available for Eid migration in the 11–20 March period. The government is also providing a 30 percent discount for Commercial Economy trains from 14–29 March.
Due to flooding in several regions, KAI cancelled 48 train services in Cirebon, Bandung, Jakarta, and Jember operational areas for passenger safety. Eleven long-distance trains that were scheduled to depart from Gambir Station will instead depart from Jatinegara Station on Sunday, 29 June 2025, as a preventive measure against traffic congestion caused by the BTN Jakarta International Marathon 2025.
