Gus Ipul Reveals Budget for People's School Student Shoes Procurement – Is Rp 27 Billion True?
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Social Affairs Minister (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf has revealed the budget for procuring shoes for students of the People’s School (SR), which is said to amount to Rp 27 billion.
In front of the media, Saifullah showed the details of the shoe procurement for students and teachers of the People’s School carried out by the Ministry of Social Affairs.
“We are open, we will be open to criticism, suggestions, and input from the public. The procurement process goes through very strict procedures,” said Saifullah during a press conference at the Ministry of Social Affairs office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026).
As shown in the presentation slides displayed, there is procurement of student PDL shoes, SD, SMP, and SMA PDH shoes, sports shoes (for students and teachers), teacher PDH shoes, and daily shoes for SD, SMP, and SMA.
“Yes, four pairs, don’t get it wrong, for all students, and also for teachers,” said Gus Ipul, Saifullah’s familiar nickname.
According to Gus Ipul, the budget for shoe procurement for the 2025 People’s School programme has proceeded in accordance with the procedures of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) and the Financial Audit Board (BPK).
He invited the BPK to audit the budget within the Ministry of Social Affairs if any procurement is found not to meet standards.
“It can be audited, it can be checked, and then whether this meets the standards or not, there will be a process. So as not to be mistaken, so as not to be confused,” he explained.
“The responsible parties are certainly the PPK or the Pokja. They are responsible for that. The process is carried out with the allocated budget determined after a survey or, more simply, after going through the existing mechanisms,” he added.
He stated that the production of shoes for SR students is already underway and has been distributed to around 32,000 students.
“There are several (types of) shoes for the People’s School given to students in 2025. The need is for 32,000, but we budgeted for 40,000 to be safe in case some are damaged,” said Gus Ipul.
