Gus Ipul Praises Central Sulawesi Provincial Government for Diligently Supporting People's Schools
Indonesia’s Social Affairs Minister, Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul), has expressed appreciation to the Central Sulawesi Provincial Government (Pemprov Sulteng) and the Sigi Regency Government (Pemkab Sigi) for their active involvement in successfully implementing the People’s School programme.
“I thank the Governor of Central Sulawesi and the Regent of Sigi who have been diligent in overseeing the pilot People’s School programme,” said Gus Ipul in a written statement on Monday (20/4/2026).
This statement was made by Gus Ipul after attending the Dialogue on Collaboration for the President’s Priority Programmes with local governments and social pillars in the Pogombo Room at the Central Sulawesi Governor’s Office.
Gus Ipul arrived at the Central Sulawesi Governor’s Office around 10:52 WITA, greeted by various performances from students of People’s Junior High School (SRMP) 22 Sigi and Integrated People’s School (SRT) 20 Palu.
The students appeared enthusiastic in delivering their performances, ranging from cheers, traditional dances, speeches in English and Arabic, choir, and poetry.
On this occasion, People’s School teachers also demonstrated their teaching abilities, followed by an interactive dialogue with the People’s School students.
Gus Ipul stated that over approximately two semesters since the People’s Schools were established, positive changes have been evident among the students, from increased optimism to boosted self-confidence.
“We can see the students’ development. We are moved by their optimism; they have extraordinary self-confidence, and it’s important that they remain proud of their parents and families,” said Gus Ipul.
Gus Ipul added that the students are committed to making the most of their schooling opportunities at People’s Schools to become a resilient, strong, successful generation and part of Golden Indonesia 2045.
For information, several permanent People’s School sites are currently under construction in Palu City, Sigi Regency, Buol Regency, and Tojo Una-una Regency in Central Sulawesi.
“We hope that in line with the President’s target, every regency and city will have at least one permanent People’s School building, and for the province level, a minimum of two to three or four depending on future needs,” said Gus Ipul.
The hope is that with more successful People’s Schools built and operational, more children from underprivileged families can access quality education.
Central Sulawesi Governor Anwar Hafid stated that besides the four proposed permanent People’s School sites, other locations are in the proposal process.
“Other regencies are preparing the land in the meantime. Insyaallah, we will soon propose to the Minister once the land is complete,” said Anwar.
“We will complete the buildings, and there will be 1,000 integrated students in those People’s Schools,” he added.
In addition to collaborating on the People’s School programme, the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Central Sulawesi Provincial Government are also strengthening the National Single Social-Economic Data (DTSEN) through data updates starting from the local level.
“The key to the updates is to submit data as it is from the regions, from each location, into the National Single Social-Economic Data, then verified and validated by BPS, and the results will be delivered to us (Ministry of Social Affairs) in the form of decile rankings from 1 to 10,” explained Anwar.
For information, the event was also attended by Deputy Governor Reny A Lamadjido, Sigi Regent Mohamad Rizal Intjenae, Deputy Regent of Sigi Samuel Yansen Pongi, and other related officials.
