Gus Anta Appreciates PKB's Consistent Study of Grandfather Hasyim's Texts
Jakarta – Gus Anta Maulana, great-grandson of Hadratussyekh KH Hasyim Asy’ari, expressed appreciation for the National Awakening Party (PKB) for consistently conducting monthly studies of texts authored by the founder of Nahdlatul Ulama during Ramadan.
Gus Anta conveyed this appreciation whilst attending the closing of a study session on the text “Adabul ’Alim wal Muta’allim” (The Etiquette of Scholars and Seekers of Knowledge) at PKB’s headquarters on Raden Saleh Street in Central Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
“Thank you to PKB. I greatly appreciate the party’s determination to examine the works of Grandfather Hasyim in every Ramadan,” said Gus Anta.
According to him, the text study is highly important as it discusses in depth the proper conduct in seeking knowledge and how to select an authentic teacher. The values contained in KH Hasyim Asy’ari’s work, he said, are universal and relevant to all segments of society, not merely to Islamic boarding school students.
“I believe it is very important to hold such studies to examine the significance of proper etiquette in seeking knowledge and selecting teachers. Grandfather Hasyim’s messages are universal in nature, not only for students but also for the general public,” he explained.
Gus Anta also assessed that the thinking of KH Hasyim Asy’ari was highly visionary. Many messages in his work remain relevant and appear to have predicted current conditions.
“From his texts, it is clear that Grandfather Hasyim was very visionary. Long before conditions like today, he already predicted them,” he said.
He highlighted one important message in the text regarding carefulness in selecting teachers. According to him, amid current technological advancement, the phenomenon of instant learning through artificial intelligence or AI must be addressed wisely.
“What I remember most from studying this text is that students must be careful in seeking teachers. If nowadays many are learning from AI, that is certainly not appropriate,” he said.
On this occasion, Gus Anta also recounted the lengthy process of codifying KH Hasyim Asy’ari’s works undertaken by his father, KH Ishomuddin Hadzik. The process began when KH Ishomuddin studied at Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School in Kediri.
“The process of codifying Grandfather Hasyim’s works was carried out by my father whilst studying at Lirboyo. And it was not easy,” he said.
